Chapter 7: 7.1 Probability
7.2 Probability of Mutually Exclussive Events
7.3 Probablity of Independent Events
1. Sample space, S = The set of all the possible outcomes
Eg 1 : The possible outcomes when a dice is rolled
Eg 2 : The possible outcomes when a coin is tossed
2. Event = any subset of the sample space
Eg : A = The event of getting even numbers when a dice is rolled
3. The Probability of event A =
n(A) = the number of ways event A can occur
n(S) = the number of possible outcomes
Eg:
A bag contains 3 red marbles, 2 blue marbles and 4 yellow marbles. What is the probability of
picking a blue marble? [2/9]
